Activities to prepare to get merry! 

► Christmas activities for all levels on the TES website: Christmas in France, PPT, Quiz, Advent calendars etc.  All resources prepared and shared by teachers of French in UK schools.  You will need to register of the TES website (free) to download.

 ►France Diplomatie provides detailed information on the French way to celebrate Christmas and the visit of “le Père Noël” . Click on the links to discover French  Christmas Carols, decorations and the origins of the tradition of the midnight mass and the Réveillon.

►Visit Père Noël and discover his village! Write a letter to Santa, send e-cards, play online games,  download dot to dot activities,  pictures and print patterns for Christmas decorations!

Noël: Bricolage et Activités Tête à Modeler offers a great range of Christmas songs, cards and patterns to make advent calendars, table decorations, recipes than can be turned into a group or class activities.

Angelika Niall (Massey High) likes Vive Noël, a very animated (plug in and fast connection required)  website offering pictures to print cut and colour in, recipes for the festive season, games, as well as short stories and Christmas carols.

Dorothy Hodson refers to  the atschool.eduweb page which offers an online fill in the gap exercise. Spend a while introducing your class to vocabulary relevant to the Christmas Season and take them to this webpage where they read the text, look at the picture and choose the correct word from the drop down menu.

Visit Vive-Paques.com with your Junior Students and discover a range of seasonal activities to carry out on line or in class: send e-Easter cards, play games (inc. wordsearch), follow easy brighty illustrated recipes or get creative with some of the well explained crafts to decorate the classroom.

Wanting to introduce your students to the French way of celebrating Easter, its traditions and cultural aspects? An informative page has been published in English (American) at frenchfriends.info.com, and it could be a starter to a comparing conversation.

Pâques=chocolat!  The French are said to eat more chocolate at Easter than they do for Christmas! Very much a cultural aspect of the celebration, why not visit a "Chocolatier en ligne" to see how far the art of chocolate making (and eating) can go! 

Bastille Day: History and Symbols

What happened to make July 14th the French National Day?  Taryn Wilson (Tauranga Girls College) put together this PPT presentation to introduce her students to the historical facts behind the start of the French Revolution in 1789.  Discover all about the Marseillaise, the Tricolore, and the famous "Brioche" Marie-Antoinette wanted the people wanted to feed on!
