NCEA Level 2 Recordings for Past Listening Exams

You can download the mp3 files for exam practice purposes below.

The original files were very large.  Their format had to be edited to be available for download for your convenience here.  The largest ones had to be uploaded in two parts: Q1 and Q2.  The NZAFT was given the permission to upload these files here via email by the National Assessment Facilitator "The copyright law means it’s OK to use them for exams" on May 16th 2011.

Preparing for 2009 External Assessments

Patsy Hall (Hamilton High School for Girls) "took a guess" (sic) at what the 2009 exam papers are going to look like.   The NZQA site gives only the questions, but not a whole paper.  Patsy has done more that just cut and paste from the 2007 paper which provides the base for the new 2.1 and 2.4 format.  She has formatted the paper by putting together 2 whole assessment booklets that you might want to look at and trial with your students, while of course letting them know that these are samples only. For evidence statement and a marking schedule go to the

sample papers page

of the NZQA site.

2.4 Practice Sample: 2009 version of the 2008 paper

Patsy Hall (Hamilton High School for Girls) has adapted the 2008 2.4 paper into a possible 2009 version.  Patsy has rewritten the questions and provided a Marking Schedule.  As an intro to her valuable contribution, Patsy has added "I have not asked (NZQA) for permission to use the texts. Usually, I would trial the paper on students before putting it up. It has not been trialled.  I had trouble with the marking guide, because Maths is definitely not my strong point! And I’m not really sure how to work it out, I just used the NZQA sample as a guide. So it may need adapted. All criticism gratefully received!" See for yourselves!

2.1 Practice Paper: 2009 version of the 2005 paper

Margaret Ubels (St Peter's College Auckland ) has adapted the 2005 2.1 paper into a possible 2009 version. Margaret has rewritten the questions and provided a Marking Schedule and the Transcript and she has trialled the paper with her students.

2.4 Practice Sample, 2009 style

Julia Brown (Dilworth College) has created and shared a 2.4 practice paper and its marking schedule.  She has based her questions on extracts adapted from magazines and newspapers on the theme À la télévision française.  Although Julia warns "the assessment schedule may need reworking", it is an excellent resource to work with.

2.1 & 2.4 Practice Papers for 2009.

Philippa Kruger (St Hilda's Collegiate School) has adapted for 2009 a 2.1 and a 2.4 paper, aided by Elsa Clavel, French Assistante in Dunedin. They had been initially published by Waikato University.  Permission to use them was sought and granted by Jeanne Gilbert. The revised transcript and marking schedules for both papers are also included.  Philippa has shared a number of practice papers at all three levels, and she will be grateful for your feedback, so that she can work towards providing a better version still.  Please email her direct with your suggestions at pkruger@shcs.school.nz

As an intro to her valuable contribution, Patsy has added "I have not asked NZQA for permission to use the old paper, it has not been moderated, and it has not been trialled. 2008: 2.5 Possible Answers

The following four documents suggest answers to the topics of the 2007 NCEA Assessment paper.  Pascale Hyboud-Peron (french.ac.nz Administrator) wrote possible answers to these tasks using a wide  variety of appropriate language including some from Curriculum Level 7.  While expressing and justifying her own opinions, Pascale explores the view of others in communicating information, ideas and opinions.  Evidence of Level 7 vocabulary and structures are highlighted.  These possible answers can be used in the classroom with students who can self evaluate their language knowledge prior to the external assessment.  They can study these short responses to analyse the ways in which the target language is organised, as well as the different text types and their different purposes. The texts can be used for dictation, fill in the gaps exercise, vocabulary search etc. Pascale welcomes your feedback on these, which you can send using the contact form of the website.
