RWC 2011 - October 17th 2011

M. Francis Etienne, French Ambassador, was in Napier on the occasion of France playing Canada there on that date.

A soirée was organised at the Napier Club by the "Association Française de Hawkes Bay".  Lesley Parris (NZAFT President) and Sylvie Plant (NZAFT Hawkes Bay Regional Officer and Association Française de Hawkes Bay Secretary) James Donaldson (NZALT Massey Regional Officer) were present.  Great conversations were had and constuctive relationships were strengthened in a relaxed atmosphere!

Visite de M. Chardon, Inspecteur d' Académie (Arts Visuels) à Tauranga 8-9 juin 2011

It was with great pleasure that I assisted Laurent Chardon, an inspector for art teaching at secondary level in New Caledonia, during his visit to Tauranga last week. Laurent was meeting with the Visual Arts Advisor and felt he might need some help with the language... It turned out Laurent's command of English enabled him to have insightful conversations with a range of Arts practitioners at the local colleges and at the Art Gallery without requiring much interpreting from me! He was interested in Maori art in English medium schools as well as learning about the Te Kotahitanga programme. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the French and New Zealand education systems and to look more closely at an other area of the New Zealand Curriculum.  Thank you to Dominique Suquet for having provided me with this opportunity.

In September 2010 Jasmine Hanawy at Sutton Park School orgainised & held an Inter-School French Speech Competition. The day was something to be proud of for both the participants & the organisers.
The students were from years 7, 8 & 9 and they came prepared with lovely speeches in French.
The purpose of the day was to celebrate learning French, to come together as students, teachers and French community and to learn & support each other through our French teaching and learning.
A big thankyou to Dr Judith Pickens for welcoming the opportunity at Sutton Park, to the French Embassy for supporting the students' learning & donating the prizes for the winners on the day and the Resource Room who went out of their way to make the day a real success.
