Viewing

Stefanie Hossbach (Saint Margaret's College) has put together a presentation to ensure her students practise viewing for the external standards. From the collection of pictures students are choosing appropriate captions. Upon completing the exercise, why not ask your students to make their own presentation with a few pictures and a choice of captions for their peers to find out?

Impromptu Tasks

Hilary de Joux (Nelson College for Girls) has put together these little scenarios. Inspired from a Drama course they consist of acting out situations within a theme and using particular vocabulary fields. They have been successful in her classses and have inspired spontaneous conversations and confidence conversing with each other. Use one scene at a time or give the document as a handout for students to select from. Hilary stresses this flexible activity is easily adapted and changed to suit the students and their particular interests/numbers of students in your class/ varying levels/ time requirements etc.

La France Vue du Ciel

This PPT presentation, sent by Taryn Wilson (Tauranga Girls College) , is made of pictures of French sceneries taken from the sky by award winning French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.  Not all places are easily identifiable, but each slide provides excellent material to entice students to work on descriptions, with the appropriate vocabulary and structures.  eg: Show the pictures a first time during which they can make lists of words, then they can choose one in particular to describe orally after having written their short presentation.
