FRENCH 2012 OVERSEAS STUDY TOURS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

ABBEY Language Travel is offering two overseas French Language & Culture Tours for High School students to Bordeaux & Paris in April 2012 and to Normandy & Paris in Sept/Oct 2012.

These are independent educational tours specifically designed for high school students with a focus on gaining fluency and confidence in French as well as an appreciation of French culture. Students of French unable to join school-based overseas excursions are welcome to apply for a place on the Tours.

Tours are in the April and Sept/Oct school holidays and include two weeks of fun-filled French lessons in the mornings, twin share homestay and a rich program of afternoon and weekend cultural and sightseeing activities. Experienced Tour Leaders accompany the group and local escorts guide the group at all stages.

Stage de Français 2011
APPLICATIONS are CLOSED

- 1 year 12 student of French in New Zealand will be selected by the NZAFT Executive to spend three weeks in Nice, France.

- The stay will be from July 14th to August 2nd 2011 at International House Language School in Nice . The successful student will participate in the Teenage Summer Programme 

To be considered to win this opportunity to improve your French in France, you must complete the following:

● An application form signed by you and a parent or guardian (pages 2, 3)
● A personal statement in French about why you want this scholarship (page 4)
● Give your teacher the confidential French Teacher’s Assessment form and ask them to return it directly to the address shown by  March 1st  2011 (pages 5 and 6)

Return the completed application form and your personal statement by March 1st 2011 to:

The NZAFT Executive will then establish a shortlist of five applicants who will be interviewed in French via Skype within 10 days of the deadline to determine the most suitable applicant.

The winner of the Stage de Français 2011 will be announced on March 15th  2011 by email and then through the NZAFT listserve.

What is included in the Stage de Français:
● a return airfare Auckland-Nice-Auckland + domestic travel within NZ, including travel insurance
● three weeks French tuition at International House, Nice
● three weeks half board accommodation (breakfast & dinner) with a French family, vetted by International House in Nice. Another student on the Programme will be sharing the room.

What is not included in the Stage de Français offer:

● Pocket money (about $40 a day as an indication for lunches and daily expenses)
● Expenses for passport, personal insurance other than travel.

Languages Immersion Awards for Students

The Ministry of Education is offering up to 15 fully-funded Language Immersion Awards (LIAs) for travel in 2011 to New Zealand secondary school students who study the following languages and French in particular. Students will spend six months in a country where the language theystudy is spoken. They will gain understanding and skills in a real life context while living with a host family and going to a local school.

DELF Junior

The Alliances Françaises de Nouvelle Zélande have announced the launch in their habilitated centers of a new diploma, the DELF Junior.  Students of French (under 18) can gain a genuine French Language proficiency diploma, awarded and recognised by the French Ministry of Education.
The DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française) Junior offers different diplomas:
the Basic User has two levels :A1 (Levels 3&4 NZC) A2 (Levels 5&6 NZC)
the Independent User has also two levels: B1 and B2 (Levels 7&8 NZC).

So, if you have ever sought to give your students the chance to show their motivation for the language and obtain a qualification either prior or in parallel to NCEA/IB/CIE, DELF Junior can be a terrific complementary asset!
